About the event

Submitted by Mia Castro, Advisor/Tutor, PACT, Inc., Upward Bound Vacaville

On February 27th, the PACT Upward Bound Vacaville students took a field trip to San Jose State University (SJSU)! PACT Advisors Mia and Viri were joined by the lovely college advisors Ms. Cunningham (Will C. Wood, WCW) and Ms. Garcia (Vacaville High School, VHS), along with their selected seniors from each campus who had received acceptances to SJSU. A special thanks to Ms. Perry (WCW) for also volunteering to chaperone!

Our large group embarked on a tour around campus, with students taking particular interest in “the water fountains and historical landmarks” and “visiting the campus bookstore.” Students were able to get a glimpse inside certain buildings, such as the Student Union, and experienced firsthand SJSU’s lively campus environment. One student shared, “It was a lot of fun to see how people interact, even if it was just a small wave to each other.” A special highlight during our tour occurred towards the end, when our group ran into a Will C. Wood alumna who shared her experience living in one of the campus’s newest dorm buildings!

After making our way around campus and working up an appetite, PACT Upward Bound Vacaville students had lunch at The Commons dining hall. Students noted that the dining hall “had everything you would like” and “the pizza was fresh.” In conclusion to a long day, many students felt inspired by what the campus had to offer and looked toward their potential future as a student on SJSU’s campus:

“I really really enjoyed SJSU.”

“My experience at SJSU was amazing! The campus was really nice, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the campus…Overall, SJSU is a great campus and definitely one I would apply to.”

“I love the campus and I am planning on going there for college… 10 out of 10 would recommend.”
