Allow sufficient time to fill out the application form. A "rush
job" results in careless errors. Work in a quiet place alone where
it is easy to concentrate.

Files should be made for each college applied to.

Copy everything that you send to colleges and The Educational Testing Service. (ETS)

Carefully read all instructions and fill out applications completely.

Type information on the original application.

Type completely, neatly and accurately.

Fill in every blank or draw a line through it or indicate "N/A" or ("0" on financial aid forms.

Send pictures, medical reports and insurance information if requested.

Keep notes and any other pertinent information on copies.

Prepare drafts of all essays.

Request college fee waivers from staff three weeks prior to application deadline.

Request transcript
from high school guidance counselor a maximum of three weeks prior
to application deadline,
if requested.

Use "Add" card from ETS if student wants SAT/ACT scores sent to additional colleges other than the original requested colleges.

Plan use of page space. If a small space is provided for a long answer, use the space above and below the line, but keep all the writing the same size; OR write "see the attached sheet" in the space and write answers on a separate page.

Ask someone to double check application for possible errors and omissions.

Be sure to sign the application. Without student signature, the application is not complete and may not be processed. Some applications require the students name on each page of the application and essay.

Requests for transcripts to be sent to the colleges should be handed to your guidance counselor at least two weeks before the deadline date,
if requested.

If the secondary part of the application is not detachable, hand entire application to your guidance counselor. Be sure that checks, pictures, etc., are firmly fastened.

Be sure sufficient postage is provided on the envelope.

Always get a certificate of mailing from the post office.
