The college advising component of
PACT’S three Educational Talent Search Programs constitute the real
heart and core of the organization. Combined, the staff of these
programs advise and tutor 3023 young people during the year 2006.
Their various activities included the following:

Most college
ready students in the programs have an average of two individual
college advising sessions that address college admissions,
financial aid, career information, assistance with completing
application forms, among many other issues related to their
educational plans.

Of those
students who were college ready, a total of 1366 were accepted
to colleges and universities in California and throughout the
country.

Approximately
1800 students participated in our workshops on admission to the
different segments of higher education, as well as public and
private financial aids programs, career information and
exploration and other related areas. Community outreach
workshops were also conducted at community agencies and
institutions, such as the Youth Guidance Center, libraries, and
youth employment programs.

PACT sponsor
SAT preparation workshops at some high school sites, utilizing
the services of Attain Learning Services.

The college
campus program include trips by charter bus to Bay Area
campuses such as: the University of California at Santa Cruz, St. Mary’s
College, Sonoma State University, San Francisco State and UC
Berkeley.

Approximately
40 graduating high school seniors participated in the College
Skills Development Seminar, a week long series of workshops
designed to help students navigate their course through the
first year of college.

PACT awarded
scholarships to low-income students from a grant
donated by Chela Financial, Inc.
